Print

Print the current drawing

Use the Print command on the File menu, to print out a copy of the drawing. This can be useful for reviewing, or for filing.

After selecting Print, the following dialog appears:

The Print dialog

Preview

When the "Preview" box is checked, a preview of what will be printed appears in the left window. Note that this preview also shows the orientation of the paper (in the above figure, the drawing will print in landscape orientation).

On large drawings that take a long time to print, this checkbox will be automatically unchecked. To get a preview, you will have to check the box.

What Would You Like to Print?

Drawing Extents
When this is checked, the entire drawing is printed.

Current Window
When this is checked, only that potion of the drawing that is visible in the drawing window is printed. This lets you print out just a portion of a part. The printout may include a slightly larger or smaller area, depending on the aspect ratio of your screen and printer.

Actual Size
Prints the drawing at actual size (1" = 1"). If the drawing is larger than the paper, it will be cut off.

Options

Thin lines/Thick lines
This option allows you to select a different line thickness for your printing drawing, typically to make the printed copy easier to read. Some printers may require that a thicker line be selected. It is also a good idea to increase the thickness when printing to fax.

Use Color
If you have a color printer, turn this on to create the drawing with the colors corresponding to the Quality. Some black and white printers (particularly PostScript printers) will use shades of gray to represent colors.

Show Leads and Traverses
When this is checked, traverse lines and lead IO Quality lines are included. It is easier to see the lines used to create the actual part without these lines added.

Hide Selected Entities
This omits printing of the entities selected in the drawing. This can be useful to print out the part without the traverse lines to show a client what the final piece will look like.

Print bitmap
If a bitmap to trace was loaded (see Overview of Bitmap Tracing), this option will be available. This creates a hard copy of what the bitmap looked like.

Show endpoint Dots
When this is checked, a dot is printed at the end of each entity in the drawing. In most uses, these dots should not appear. If this option is checked, the "radio" buttons below it become active, the size of the endpoint dots can be selected.

When this option is selected, choose the dot size you want

Printer Setup

By clicking on the Printer Setup button, the standard Windows dialog for configuring your printer will appear. Use this dialog to select a different printer, and to change the settings on the printer. If the orientation is changed here (Landscape or Portrait), the setting will also be changed in LAYOUT.

Paper Setup

The "Paper Setup" controls which way the image is printed on the paper. LAYOUT will automatically select the paper orientation that allows for the largest printout. Use these controls to change the orientation.

Portrait is "regular," where the long portion of the page goes up and down.

Landscape is "wide," where the page is turned sideways and is wider than it is tall. The Preview box shows what the page looks like.

The orientation affects how large the drawing can be printed on the page. Drawings that are taller than they are wide will print larger in Portrait than in Landscape.

Also use "Paper Setup" to choose how many copies to print.
