Snap Tool Buttons

Snap buttons help make sure that all entities are connected

When using a drawing tool to add a new entity to the drawing, a row of "Snap" buttons appears. Snaps are used to precisely place new entities on the drawing. For example, a new line from the exact center of a circle to the end of a previous line can be added.

Remember that the tool path must be one continuous line. For this to happen, each entity must begin exactly where the last entity ended. Since it would be challenging to attempt to "eyeball" the start of each entity. Using Snaps, however, is an easy and reliable way to make sure that all entities are connected.

Snaps do more than make sure entities are joined. They also let entities be positioned relative to other entities. For example, a line that is tangent to a circle, or precisely perpendicular to another entity can be added.

Although the Snap toolbar always looks the same, not all the snaps are always available. Snaps availability depends on which command you are using. (In the above figure, the "Tangent" snap is not available.) For example, when drawing a circle, the Perpendicular snap is not available, because it has no meaning for circles.
