Set Soft Limits by Two Corners

Set soft limits by choosing two corners

In most cases, soft limits would typically be set by Corner and Size. This is because most GlobalMAX machines are not equipped with hardware limit switches in the +X and +Y ends of the machine, and there is a risk in setting the upper right corner that the motors may stall.

However, setting the soft limits by corner and size is useful when setting the box to a small area, where you are assured that you won’t be running up against the physical limits of the machine and stalling the motors. For example, setting the soft limits to be inside the limits of some special fixture.

To set the limits by corner and size, from the Setup menu, choose Soft Limits and then choose Set by two corners. The dialog shown in the following figure will appear.

Setting Soft Limits by Two Corners

While this dialog is displayed, use the Jog buttons on the screen, and some of the other movement commands, to move the machining head around. You may wish to disable the soft limits temporarily in order to have full freedom of movement. You can do this by unclicking the Enable Soft Limits box on the dialog.

1) Move the machining head to the Upper Right corner of the limits to define, and click the Set Upper Right Corner button.

2) Move the machining head to the Lower Left corner of the limits to define, and click the Set Lower Left Corner button.

3) Check the "Enable Soft Limits" box.

4) Click Save to save these settings.

When you are finished, be sure to test the limits by moving the machining head up against the soft limits using the Jog commands. Be careful, because if a mistake was made when setting the limits, the machining head might crash into something. If the motors stall, or if the machine will crash before reaching the limit, then repeat the procedure, but this time define a smaller box for the limits.
