Z-axis Controls

Control the up/down motion of the machining nozzle

Use the Z-axis toolbar to control the motion of the Z-axis.

The Z-Axis toolbar

Move the toolbar by clicking and dragging on the title bar at the top. Place it anywhere on the screen (even outside the MAKE window). To close the toolbar, click on the "X" in the upper right-hand corner. (The toolbar will reappear in its original position the next time MAKE is started.

If you close the Z-axis toolbar, and then want to view it again, use the View menu to turn it on.

The following commands are available from the Z-axis toolbar:

Z1 Up

Move the machining head up. The machining head will move up as long as this button is clicked. Or, press the 7 key on the numeric keypad to move the Z-axis up.

Left-clicking on this button moves the head up quickly. Right-clicking moves the head up slowly. The speed of motion is set in the Speeds and Accelerations dialog.

Z1 Dwn

Move the machining head down. The machining head will move down as long as this button is clicked, or until it reaches the material. Or, press the 1 key to move the Z-axis down.

Stand off

This button is active only when the "Allow Automatic Stand-Off" option is checked on the Motor Setup tab. When active, right-clicking Stand off displays the following list of stand-off distances:

Click the desired stand-off distance then confirm your choice by clicking OK when prompted:

When both "Allow Automatic Stand-Off" and "Terrain Follower is attached" options are checked, left-clicking and holding on the stand-off button drops the Terrain Follower foot down to contact the material being cut. Nozzle stand-off automatically sets to the stand-off value applied when the Terrain Follower was initially calibrated. See Using the Terrain Follower.

Move Z1

Click on this button, and a dialog appears to move the machining head. Either enter a number directly in this dialog, or use the arrows to the right to set a value. Positive numbers move the machining head up, while negative numbers move it down.

All Up

The All Up button quickly moves the machining head as far up as it will go.

NOTE:

When you use the All Up command, the motors will sometimes stall at the end of the travel. This is normal and does not harm the Z axis--it is a cosmetic issue only.
