Using the GlobalMAX Z-Drill

The Z-Drill simplifies the piercing of holes in composites, laminates, and other sensitive materials

NOTE:

The Drill setup option appears in the GlobalMAX Setup Menu only when "Z-Drill is attached" is selected as an option in the Administrator Setup function.

Setting the Drill X and Y Offset

When the Drill Accessory is first installed, you will need to measure the exact distance between the center of the nozzle and the center of the drill and enter it in the Drill Offset dialog.

Using the Z-Drill Attachment to Pierce Holes

The Z-Drill accessory is designed to pierce holes in materials that may be difficult or time-consuming to pierce using the abrasivejet. In particular, composites and laminates can be tricky to pierce, because water tends to work its way between the layers and cause them to delaminate.

The Z-Drill accessory is mounted on the Z-axis and is controlled by MAKE. When MAKE uses the Drill to pierce holes, MAKE automatically pierces the material using the Drill when it reaches the parts of the tool path that require piercing. MAKE then moves the nozzle into position and continue along the tool path.

It is not necessary to use the Z-Drill accessory for every part with holes. For most materials, the abrasivejet will pierce with no difficulty. The Drill should be used for those materials that are difficult to pierce without delamination, or those that are time-consuming with the abrasivejet. Using the Z-Drill Access.
